Monica holds an unrestricted practising certificate, a Bachelor of Communication, Bachelor of Laws, and Masters of Administrative Law and Policy. Monica's Masters thesis is titled 'The Independent Commission Against Corruption: a taxing, toothless tiger?' Feel free to read her paper (download below). Monica's experience and knowledge of assisting organisations avoid corporate risk has also been recognised through the award of Fellowship of the Governance Institute of Australia.

 

Before focusing on Prevention Partners NSW, Monica held the positions of Principal Solicitor of Strathfield Municipal Council and Associate at Maddocks Lawyers, Sydney (Public Law, Planning and Environment team). She has also been employed in the legal and governance teams of Liverpool City Council and Parramatta City Council.

 

Because of this in depth knowledge of local government she is widely sought after for public speaking engagements. These have included sitting upon the expert panel of Local Government Procurement Pty Ltd’s annual conference and attending their Networking in the Bush events. Contracts, probity and procurement in local government are areas that she has vast knowledge on.

The senior roles Monica has held in various councils saw her charged with overseeing, steering and/or advising upon legal and strategic local government decisions. This experience propels Prevention Partners NSW into the limelight where local government is concerned.

Monica has focused on detection and avoidance of corporate risk and she has frequently been called upon to assist dealing with elected officials.

Monica's skills have been employed in investigating the conduct of elected officials and staff members, acting as probity advisor on major and contentious projects, and negotiating with contractors and other government agencies to achieve the best outcome for councils.
